  1. Wow. You do not get hearing loss by getting older. I can't believe the misinformation of that part. My audiologist said that we don't have anywhere near the hearing decibel protection laws that they have in Denmark, I think it was, and Denmark has much less incidence of hearing loss. But it would not be politically correct to make any actual accusations or changes. You have to make people think it's to be expected with age. Ignorance. Where are the fact checkers now, hmm?

  3. What about allowing recycling of hearing aids after they are 3 years old. Allow people to donate their old ones and they can write off on taxes. Help the poor like we do eyewear. We can clean and sanitize them.

  4. In Europe you go to a shop were an audiologist does all hearing tests for free, you get a hearing aid (Starkey, signia, etc.) for just the price of the device itself MINUS the amount covered by the insurance (which every citizen has from birth on). Total real cost ? A couple of bucks. The USA is ruled by bankers that suck up all of your money and give nothing back. When will people over there realize that what is done in Europe can be done in the US ?? Our medical care is free, our roads are in good condition, soil and water are healthy, all waste is recycled. The poor and homeless are taken care off to restart their lives etc, etc, etc.. America is a great country to visit, not to live in.

  5. Honestly, it's unbelievably crazy how there's an invention that can help you hear if you're incapable to. It makes me wonder what type of inventions we'll have later as the generations evolve. I'm totally interested!

  6. My hub tried those things that aren’t real hearing aids and he said it sounds like people are talking through a can! How about doing hearing aides online? You can do your own ear mould. Send the stuff in the mail and teach people how to take impressions of their own ears. Husband is so hard of hearing he has to turn the volume full blast on the TV. He wears headphones because I can hardly stand TV anyway. To have it blasting loud is unbearable. I joke and tell people he doesn’t need a seeing eye dog but he does need a hearing ear wife! I should get the $4700.

  7. Some health insurance plans do cover hearing aids. I am getting a pair of hearing aids costing $6,000, and my insurance pays one third of that, even though its not the insurance company's preferred brand of hearing aid.

  8. Dr. Frank Lin (John Hopkins) (@~6:10) is working for common good to reduce cost for users. But Chris McCormick Starkey, (@~8:50) chief marketing guy will do/say whatever to protect the hearing aid exclusivity: "concern is people trying to self diagnose, people trying to self program." That's bull.
With apps available for self hearing tests, the programming can easily be set via Bluetooth: fit the device, listen for a very quiet a tone at a first frequency, if not heard, incrementally increase the level of tone until you hear it. Increase frequency to next tone, repeat. When complete the system can store the program to adjust the frequency response to compensate for you personal loss. Just like in the audiologist office. Voila 2/3 of cost eliminated. If curious, search apps for sound analysis & you'll find many apps. The trick is to couple the app to the psap transducers/amps that play the tones so that the result is a closed loop that becomes a closed loop with your personal hearing. Similarly, noise cancellation tech is already available & used in consumer products.

  9. $4,700..! Try $6,000 I'm not 70 60 or in my 50's i was born with it and it sucks buying hearing aid batteries or the fear of getting them wet. Insurance almost covers nothing when glasses get better care & coverages. Alot of people complain that Medicare doesn't cover it. Try being young and spend thousands of dollars ever 7 to 10 years because they fall apart from wearing them 7 days a week. The Age thing gets under my skin, when I'm not old it's a hearing issue not an age issue.

  10. I just bought hearing aids for the first time. .IC. (inner canal) for $249.00 for a pair of their EV3,s from Audien Hearing . So I'm no expert but these work better than the ones my hearing doctor let me try for 3 weeks and they wanted $2.796.98!!😵 If you look online and do some indepth research like I did I think you can find a pair from a reputable company that suit your needs like I did at a very reasonable price!!🤔😁

  11. When I was 45 I lost 80% of my hearing in my left ear due to an ear infection. I have a hearing aid, the one cost me $3500.00. What needs to be said is hearing aids only last between 3 to 7 years, then need to be replaced. This wouldn’t be bad if insurance would cover part of the cost, but this is a large expense every few years to replace them.

  13. I've lost pretty much all hearing in my right ear. I've had several surgeries to remove recurring cholesteatomas. I've noticed in the last year especially that I am having an extremely hard time making out direct conversation with someone if there is ANY background noise. 😐 Eating out, in the grocery store, at work, and now even if there's not too much noise but people are wearing masks – forget it. I can not understand what they are saying. I get really frustrated asking people to repeat it again and again. If I have to ask 3x and I still don't have a clue I give up. I'm sure I frustrate a good number of people too.

  15. You're Hard To Listen To

    © Thomas L. Harleman, August 3, 2020

I wear expensive hearing aids cause I can hardly hear

But often what goes into one comes out the other ear

And much of what gets caught inside just isn't really true

Why did I pay thousands if you're hard to listen to?

I try to watch some tv shows but miss a lot of stuff

I try to read their lips but soon I've quickly had enough

I scoot a little closer and then crank up the sound

So I can't hear the neighbors yelling, "Turn that darn thing down!"

I try to give an answer to what I thought you said

You have a puzzled look upon your face and shake your head

I try to pay attention but my hearing is so poor

I only feel vibrations when you leave and slam the door

I often play the banjo because it's very loud.

And when I play, folks walk away so I rarely draw a crowd.

I play without my hearing aids. To you that might seem dumb.

But they make it sound like beating on a 55 gallon drum.

I wear expensive hearing aids cause I can hardly hear

But often what goes into one comes out the other ear

And much of what gets caught inside just isn't really true

Why did I pay thousands if you're hard to listen to?

  16. imagine how the world would have looked like if these companies didnt charge your whole life earnings to preserve your life, hearing or vision…. greed is probably one of the causes of why a civilization or species can get extinct by themselves. as I see it, they would rather prefer 1 person to buy a life saving apparatus or surgery for 1 million, than 10 000 people for a modest profit. why? because there will always be clients, and the clients they would want are those who will pay more. disgusting. pharma is the most disgusting, immoral and dirty business in the whole world, despite the people working there take oath to protect and preserve human life above all.
