Can Tinnitus Be Caused by Eustachian Tube Dysfunction?

Can Tinnitus Be Caused by Eustachian Tube Dysfunction? I’ve been looking for the cause of my T since the onset in September of last year. It was nothing obvious like a sudden loud noise, or exposure to loud music, so I couldn’t work it out. I thought it might be wax buildup but when I went for my wax removal appointment they said there was barely anything to remove, and so advised me against the procedure.

Then I came across Eustachian Tube Dysfunction (ETD) and a light bulb went off in my head. I’ve suffered from sinus problems for about six years, and sinus problems were listed as an associated issue, causing mucus / fluid buildup. I also read that flying with ETD can be painful, and my memory of some of the worst pain I’ve ever felt was 10 years ago when descending to land on an international flight. It felt like hot pokers were being held in my ears!

As a result I’ve focussed more on my allergies to help – I was already doing a saline nasal spray and a steroid nasal spray for the sinusitis, and have added an antihistamine to that. But I haven’t really noticed much of a difference in my T, which is mainly in my right ear and very high pitched: less a tone and more like radio static.

I just thought I’d post about this in case anyone else has or thinks they have this, and to see if anyone has any success stories in dealing with the T associated with ETD. Thanks!
