More seniors receiving cochlear implants for hearing loss

Sunnybrook’s cochlear implant program — the most important in Canada — is more and more treating extra seniors of their 80s, 90s and past.

Not like a listening to assist, a cochlear implant is an implanted gadget that delivers impulses on to the auditory nerve, which carries alerts to the mind.

  • I'd love this for my grandmother here in the US. She is 89 and just went blind 2 and a half years ago. At the same time, her hearing aids went out and her hearing has deteriorated too. We got one new hearing aid, but it doesn't work well. It's nice to see she is not too old to get a cochlear implant since she has no major health issues. Are there any American counterparts I could contact? I'm in Waco, Texas.
